Afrika is het tweede grootste continent (na Azië) op onze planeet Aarde. Wanneer men Zuid-Amerika en Noord-Amerika (Amerika) gezamenlijk als een continent beschouwt, hoort Afrika op de derde plaats. Samen met Europa en Azië vormt het een kolossale landmassa. Er liggen hier veel landen, wel 54 en daarvan zijn Egypte en Kenia het bekendst. Een groot deel van de wereldbevolking woont in dit prachtige continent, wel meer dan 1 miljard mensen (een 7de van de wereldbevolking die op dit moment rond de 7 miljard bedraagt). De meeste mensen uit Afrika hebben een donkere (donkerbruin, lichtbruin, zwart...) huidskleur. Daardoor worden ze vaak gediscrimineerd, maar hun motto is dat iedereen gelijk is en niemand gediscrimineerd mag worden. In het noorden van Afrika zijn mensen met een blanke huidskleur en in Zuid-Afrika ook. Noord-Afrika heeft blanke mensen, omdat dat eigenlijk Arabieren zijn. Zuid-Afrikaanse blanken komen uit landen in Europa die Afrika vroeger koloniseerden. Bijna heel Afrika hoort tot de Derde wereld. Dat betekent dat de landen van Afrika heel erg arm zijn. Het leven is er niet zo goed en alles wordt niet eerlijk verdeeld. Kinderen hebben bijna geen toekomst hier en gaan vaak naar een slechte school of zelfs geen school. Over rijkdom gesproken is Afrika arm, maar het continent is wel rijk aan cultuur. Elk volk in Afrika heeft z'n eigen tradities en cultuur. De kleding en voedsel verschilt in elke Afrikaanse regio.
