Deutsch: Über dieses Gemälde und den Künstler ist wenig bekannt. Es wird traditionell Gonzales Coques zugeschrieben und soll Karl II., König von England, Schottland und Irland vielleicht beim Tanz mit seiner Nichte Elisabeth von der Pfalz im Jahr 1660 in Den Haag in den letzten Tage seines Aufenthalts im Exil vor seiner Abreise nach England zeigt. Dem ist entgegenzuhalten, dass die Ähnlichkeit der Hauptfigur mit Karl II. nicht überzeugend ist. Da diese sowohl einen mit Lilien geschmückten Mantel als auch den Kragen und das Emblem des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies trägt, könnte es sich auch um den französischen König Ludwigs XIV. handeln. Es gibt darüberhinaus noch mehrere andere Interpretationen dieses Gemäldes, das im Stil der niederländischen Interieurmalerei des 17. Jahrhunderts gehalten ist.
English: Little is known about this painting, or the artist. It has traditionally been ascribed to Gonzales Coques and was believed to show Charles II dancing at The Hague in 1660, perhaps with his niece Elizabeth van de Paltz. They were at a reception at the Stadtholder's court on the occasion of his restoration as King of England. Against this it must be said that These juresemblance of the principal figure to Charles II is not convincing, and as he wears both a cloak emblazoned ith fleur-de-lys and the collar and emblem of the Order of the Golden Fleece, it may equally be a portrait of Louis XIV dancing in a Dutch interior setting on some other occasion. There are several other interpretations of this subject documenting Charles II's last days of exile before his departure for England.
