Rhode Island (officieel: The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations) is een van de vijftig staten van de Verenigde Staten. De staat ligt in het noordoosten van het land, in de regio New England. De afkorting van Rhode Island is RI. De bijnaam is 'The Ocean State'.
Met 1.080.632 inwoners is Rhode Island de op 7 na minst bevolkte staat van de VS. Dat is niet zo gek, want Rhode Island is qua oppervlakte de kleinste staat van de VS.
Rhode Island grenst aan de staten Connecticut en Massachusetts. De staat ligt ook aan de Atlantische Oceaan.
